It’s easy to keep YouTube playing on your Android device while you do other things. Here are 10 tips and tricks to help you get the most out of the experience.
1. Use the home screen widget
The YouTube home screen widget on Android is a great way to keep the app playing in the background while you do other things. Simply tap and hold on the home screen, select “Widgets,” then scroll down and select “YouTube.”
2. Use the lock screen widget
If you want to control playback from your lock screen, you can add the YouTube widget to your lock screen as well. Just go to the widget screen as described above, then select “Lock Screen.”
3. Use the notification player
The notification player is another great way to control playback without having to open the YouTube app. Simply tap the notification in the status bar to bring up the controls.
4. Use picture-in-picture mode
If you’re using an Android device with Nougat or higher, you can take advantage of picture-in-picture mode to keep the YouTube app playing in a small window while you do other things.
5. Use the YouTube Red background playback feature
If you’re a YouTube Red subscriber, you can use the background playback feature to keep videos playing in the background even when the app is closed.
6. Use a third-party app

If you’re a YouTube TV subscriber, you can use the YouTube TV app to keep live and recorded TV playing in the background.
9. Use the YouTube Music app
If you’re a YouTube Music subscriber, you can use the YouTube Music app to keep music playing in the background.
10. Use a screen recorder
If you want to keep a video playing in the background but don’t want to use any of the methods above, you can always use a screen recorder to record the video and play it back in any video player.
